It's that time again, when the best will duke it out for an Oscar, and the pond scum of Hollywood gets to go home with a "Razzie". And it's sometimes hard to know which is which. I mean...
"Dreamgirls"!? Eight Academy Award nominations... eight. Methinks some Academy members should be boxed about the ears with a lead boxed special edition of
"Chicago".
But it's not all bad news. Either
Forest Whitaker, or
Peter O’Toole for best actor, both of them being long over due for an award. "Pan's Labyrinth" is up for a couple, besides the foreign language award. Now if only the eyes in the palm of his hands monster could eat the cast and crew of
"Dreamgirls" and nab their awards, all would be well with the world.
On the dark side of the force, there are some heavy hitters up for a Raspberry Award for dreck in the movies this year. Besides such obvious choices as
Dr. Uwe Boll's magnum Opus
"Bloodrayne", no lesser luminaries of film than
M. Night Shyamalan, for his
"Career in the Water", and
Ron Howard, for
"The Da Vinci Code", might take home this mark of shame and ignomy.
